Meiko Maschinenbau Gmbh & CO KG
Meiko was
originally founded as a private company in 1927 but later became
a foundation - based in Germany’s Black Forest - where all
profits are ploughed back into research and development of new
products and technology.
These days
- as a specialist in dishwashers and related food waste-disposal
equipment - we are always working on developing ever-”greener”,
environmentally-friendly technology. As a result, we are market
leaders in both energy-saving and water-saving products.
We offer two
water-saving systems which work by re-using as much of the dishwasher
water as possible by cleaning it through the cyclone system.
Our Low Energy
Management (LEM) product is a special heat recovery system re-using
heat generated by the dishwasher to heat cold water.
We also have
a couple of new products in development which have the potential
for saving a lot of energy and money at the same time. For one
of these, we are working closely with a cruise line as this is
being designed to save space, labour and therefore crew cabins,
too. It has been used in shoreside applications but this will
be its first cruise ship adaptation.
We are regularly
customising systems for cruise ships in terms of design and adaptability.
It is not a question of numbers as we also supply in-flight catering
for example where the user- numbers are much larger. Cruise lines,
though, have special requirements to fit equipment into the smaller
spaces available on ships.
We have been
supplying the cruise industry since the 1990s. It is a very important
client for us and, despite the recession, we are very confident
about the future.
This company
is so well-resourced we could sell not one item for the next 18
months and still not have to lay off a single staff member or
sell a square metre of land.
In fact, though,
we have a very healthy order book. At the moment, we are supplying
Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis ships, Norwegian Cruise
Line’s new Norwegian Epic as well as all the new AIDA Cruises
and Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class ships. |
